Continuing Education Program for Educators

This is a three-week course for teachers and professors that, while covering several topics, is tailored to the interests of each group of participants.  The three broad categories of topics offered include:  Tropical Ecology, the Central American Socio-political Context, and Spanish.

While all courses will touch upon each topic, individuals will follow a course plan based on their particular topic of interest.  Local educators, experts and communiity members will work with participants.  Social and environmental communities provide hands-on learning experiences.

This course will initiate at ICAS in San Pedro, where orientation and introduction to topics will take place.  At the end of the first week, the group will travel to Proyecto Campanario Biological Reserve and Field Station, located on the Osa Peninsula on the South-Pacific coast. Tropical rainforest environments will be studied, looking at both the scientific and social aspects affecting this endangered habitat.   At the end of the second week, the group will head to the northern border region and visit the largest remaining Pacific Dry Forest habitat, with its historical and cultural developments.
